We all make a substantial investment, in terms of personnel, planning and infrastructure, to keep people and products on the move in the United States. Our roads alone make up roughly 4,000,000 miles of paved and unpaved routes. As you know, there is more to U.S. transportation and transit than asphalt, rails, pavement, busses, signage, and striping.

As we can tell from just a slight sampling of some data, the five largest U.S. public transit systems: New York, Chicago, Boston, D.C., and San Francisco- boast impressive numbers in terms of weekly ridership and miles of track. These five systems alone account for approximately 1,900 miles of tracks, or about the same distance from Atlanta, Georgia to Los Angeles, California. In addition, these five systems host a ridership of around 15 million people per weekday, which is close to double the population of New York City.

We’ve clearly established the need for continued maintenance, upgrades, additions, and improvements to U.S. transportation and transit systems. It is also unmistakable that assorted state governments are submitting transportation-related bid requests and RFPs in bulk.
